Inspiring a generation


When the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games were awarded to London in 2005, Lord Coe made a promise that they would inspire a generation of young people through sport.

In 2007, EdComs founder, Nick Fuller, was seconded to the London 2012 organising committee as Head of Education to lead on the creation and delivery of an official education programme, a critical element in the delivery of that promise.

The programme – Get Set – was a huge success, reaching 85% of the UK’s schools. Following the completion of the London 2012 Games, the Get Set programme was passed to the British Olympic Association and the British Paralympic Association, who decided to run a tender for the delivery of the education programme in legacy. EdComs was awarded the contract.

What we’ve done

We have created and delivered a broad and far-reaching programme with a number of different strands. At the heart of the programme remains the objective to use the Games and the Olympic and Paralympic Values to drive educational benefits. By maximising the impact of Olympic and Paralympic milestones, such as the Sochi 2014 Winter Games, we have ensured that the sport continues to inspire young people in the classroom and support their learning.

We have also taken the programme beyond the classroom – with support from an Olympic sponsor, we have brought the Olympic Values to life in primary school playtimes through Get Set to Play.

With funding from the Big Lottery Fund we have also created Get Set to Make a Change and trained more than 7,000 young Legacy Leaders to deliver projects and events in their own communities, making them healthier, more active places to live. The benefit of these community projects is evident in the research, which indicates improved leadership skills and confidence amongst Legacy Leaders and more positive perceptions of young people across the community.

The journey continues with new work on Get Set’s Road to Rio for the 2016 Games, extending the digital elements of the programme.



  • More than 80% of the UK’s schools are actively engaged in the Get Set programme
  • More than 4.5 million children and young people have taken part in the programme since the London 2012 Games
  • Three-quarters of teachers thought Get Set benefitted teamwork and motivation, aspiration and learning amongst their students
  • 80% of teachers advocate the programme to other teachers

Through their hard work Get Set continues to have a real impact on young people across the UK.  EdComs are a pleasure to work with and we trust them implicitly with the ongoing development and delivery of the programme.
